INTRODUCTION TO BUSINESS

GROUP PROJECT 1: Video Presentation.

We are to form a group of 5 based on an issue that we have chosen and explain our findings for the presentation. The objective of this project is to broaden students' knowledge and awareness in contemporary business issues. And our issue chosen is Air Pollution. Haze has affected a few Asia countries especially Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore in the month of June, thus, we have chose to present this topic to help our coursemates gain necessary knowledge when it comes to haze. My group members for this presentation include Edward Cheng, Chung Wei Jin and Lim Pui Yee. Below is the video of our presentation and our presentation slides. We have used prezi to prepare for the presentation as we have gained further knowledge regarding this online service and learnt more about its usage. It's very productive and time saving.

CLASS ASSIGNMENT 1: Organizational Structure.

We are given a task in class to construct an organization structure of an University. Firstly, we began to select a University as our company for this task. Next, we moved on by drawing the chart on a mahjong paper. Of course, we have also decorated and designed our chart by adding colours onto it. Lastly, our representative members, Chong Min and Daniel Teh Kuan Yon present our organization chart to the class. All in all, I had a lot of fun and I think it's an a very good interactive assignment.

CLASS ASSIGNMENT 2: ROLE-PLAY

Our second class task is to come up with a role play, with a group of ten regarding Lesson 5: Leading Your People. This role-play is about a group of war refugees who have arrived in Malaysia and hope to start a new life. The concept that is relevant to this role-play is the Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs. According to this theory, a person usually will satisfy his basic needs before he attends to more advance needs.

FINAL PROJECT: CHARITY DRIVE EVENT

We were assigned to a group of five for this last project to hold a Charity Drive Event where we will have to run a business and raise an amount of RM2000 as our target or goal. The RM2000 amount of money will include the profit, donation and sponsors. Needless to say, the total fund raise will be donated to the charity association that we have chosen which is the National Cancer Society Malaysia for my group. This Charity Drive Event was lasted for a total of 5 days from the 11th of November to the 15th of November. My group's stall was set up two stalls in front of the Student Life Centre (SLC) and we have named our business 'FINITE', which represents the limit of our business in terms of the specific time and amount of stock that we sell.

FINAL ASSIGNMENT: SELF REFLECTION

Throughout this subject module, I have learned the elements and requirements in order to start and run a business successfully. Also, of course, it taught me how to handle my money financially well and some basic accounting skills in running a business.  Besides that, I think that leadership skills and also how you communicate with the people around helps maintaining the business in a good shape as well as developing the business to a higher platform. To sum it up, what I've learned in this module definitely would help me a lot in the future as no matter what we do or go, every place is like a workplace and everything we do definitely relates to business. It's essential to have basic knowledge and skills in business because it will affect whatever decision we make in the future especially in terms of choosing a career.

My utmost favourite chapter in Introduction to Business is chapter six which is developing marketing strategies. The main reason is because it taught me the steps to run a business successfully and it taught me how to market a product is so many ways I didn't come to know of.

Overall, I enjoyed learning this subject as every lesson is like a surprise to me. Besides having an outgoing lecturer, Mr. Joe who comes up with jokes all the time when he gives lectures that actually keeps me awake especially when it's a morning class. I think that it's a very good experience although charity drive is somewhat the toughest assignment throughout the whole module.
