English 2 is one of the compulsory subjects for Semester 2. The intention of the module is to equip us with sufficient language skills to demonstrate English Language proficiency at both the pre-university and tertiary level. We will be trained to communicate according to the situation and purpose as well as demonstrate accuracy in the 4 language skills. The course is also designed to equip learners with sufficient communication and interpersonal skills and techniques. At the end of the module, we should be able to demonstrate English Language Proficiency at both the pre-university and tertiary level. Not only did i gain the 4 language skills, Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening throughout the whole module; I have also gain extra knowledge from my english lecturer, Mr. Woon. I appreciate how he puts effort in finding extra articles and give extra handouts in guiding all the students for their assignments. To say that English is one of the classes that I enjoyed being in the most would be an understatement.

TASK A

Class assignment 1: Observing the unfamiliar - The Tool.

AIMS:
We will observe and analyze the object chosen and write a well-developed and well-organized descriptive and narrative essay or extended description/journal entries .

ACCOMPLISHMENTS:
I began this assignment by setting up my workplace on my desk or kitchen table so that I could look at the chosen tool carefully with no obstructions. Next, I took my time to explore the object throughly. I let myself to observe ike a curious child or a dedicated scientist then wrote down my first reactions and what I've have noticed on a piece of paper. Later on, I have spent at least fifteen minutes noting down the visual details of my  object before exploring the other senses, etc. touch, hear, smell and taste. Lastly, I put all my information together and wrote at least one and a half page typed description about the object that enables readers to imagine the object and understand the whole observation process.

REFLECTION:
The first class assignment was to write an essay about a observing the umfamiliar tool. I find this assignment absolutely interesting as it involves 5 senses to explore the tool. Not only did I discover how fascinating the five senses have helped me throughout the whole assignment, it had also helped me in other areas where I could develop my writing skills in descriptive essays and possibly be a food critic. Besides that, I have learnt to apply the APA citation style in my essay with Mr. Woon's handout. Not only that, I also understand the necessity to interpret the data received from various sources and incorporating the information into my essay. It is really important to choose the right information to include in my essay. This assignment was particularly a favorite of mine as we were allowed to explore and write freely, without any restrictions.

Class Assignment 2: Compare and Contrast Essay

AIMS:
I to be able to demonstrate the ability to ‘read’ a television series. i.e. to understand and interpret the chosen television series genre and to demonstrate the ability to compare/contrast, analyse and synthesize information from two television series in an essay and explain them clearly and logically . Lastly, I should be able to communicate the relevant ideas in a clear, logical and appropriate academic English.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS:
In this project we are required to compare any two English language television series based on the chose genre. I chose Romantic Comedy movie as the genre that I will be focusing on. The Roncom movie of my choice are Friends with Benefit and No Strings Attached. Before starting on this assignment, I did research on the published materials related to these two movies. Besides published materials, I also used the online databases to search for suitable materials and included them in the reference list.

REFLECTION:
This assignment is my utmost favourite as it involved both my favourite movies. Not only that, both movies starred my favourite actors and actresses in it that made me watched both the movies for several times that I have come to be familiar with very well. Firstly,  I learnt to use the correct method in planning my points. I was able to use the "point by point" analysis correctly. Besides, I learnt to apply the APA citation style in my essay. I also understand the neccessity to interpret the data received from various sources and incorporating the information into my comparison essay. It is important to choose the right information to include in my comparison essay.

The topic that we have selected is 'Sabah and Sarawak deserve to get more from the federal government than what they are currently receiving.' My group members for this debate presentation are Pua Kai Jing, Leonard and I. We began our task by locating the relevant section(s) from the text that relates to the topic. Next, we have also looked at other references that deal with the same topic to ensure we have a greater depth of knowledge on the topic we're doing. Besides that, we need to research on the topic especially to look for the latest examples etc news articles and reports to examine why these topics are controversial. Not only that, we are reminded to look at both sides of each issue so we will be able to do a more comprehensive explanation of the topic. We decide how we choose to defend and explain our point of view on the issue. Lastly, we started to select our speakers and organise our scripts.

REFLECTION:

You could say that this is the first time that I have debate, adding to that it's an English debate. Throughout this debate presentation, I have learnt to understand the neccessity to interpret the dare received from various sources and incorporating the information for the debate. Not only it's a good experience for me and my group, it's also a good experience to interact with the opposite group and able to use my language skills in presenting this debate presentation.

For my group, we need to study on Bak Kut Teh business. We went to three Bak Kut Teh shops in three different areas, Klang, Cheras and Subang Jaya to conduct our interview. These three Bak Kut Teh business have the history of more than 20 years. The interviews that we have conducted are able to gather useful information for our research paper. We also did some researches online and using published material and did a recorded speaking task and sent the hardcopy to the lecturer.

REFLECTION:

My thoughts on this assignment is that it required time and effort to make the research paper a successful one. Not only did I learn how to communicate with the others during the interview, I also able to demonstrate the ability to analyse and synthesize information that I have gathered earlier on and compile them in the report. Besides that, I have learnt how to use meeting minutes and how essential that sheet of papers is to keep our progress in check. Overall, this assignment helped me to sharpen my English writing skills and group social skills.

TASK B:

Overall, I learnt several skills and knowledge in this whole module. First of, it helped me in strengthening my language skills especially my writing and speaking skills with presentation and writing tasks. Besides that, I learnt how to use citations and references in the correct method and proper way according to the APA format and guide that Mr. Woon has gave us. Other than that, I have tried debating in class for the first time of my life eventhough it is challenging at first, it is a rather fun experience. I am thankful that Mr. Woon have provide me all the information and guidance I needed to complete all the assignments above. Not only that, I appreciate all the extra handouts and extra information that Mr. Woon gives in hopes that we could improve our work better. All in all, English 2 is my favourite subject in this whole semester and I really enjoy attending the classes where lecturers and students get to interact more effectively in tutorial classes than in lecture classes.
